Denis Gallagher, Chairman

Captain Denis Gallagher has been in the maritime industry for over 60 years and has extensive experience at an executive level in various industry sectors. He has held command, managed stevedoring terminals as well as managing a shipping company before becoming a ship owner himself.


Between 1997 and 2013, his company, Ocean Shipping Pty Ltd, owned a total of nine vessels which it operated in conjunction with other chartered tonnage. These ships were engaged in world-wide trades, many from their base in Townsville, in North Queensland.


Denis is a Master Mariner and holds degrees in Law (Hons) and Economics from the University of Queensland.

Steve Pelecanos, Managing Director

Captain Steve Pelecanos has been in the maritime industry for over 50 years and has extensive experience at an executive level in various industry sectors. He has been in command of vessels engaged in international trades, has managed a shipping company and has been a pilot, Harbour Master, and Regional Harbour Master.


He has, and continues to hold, a number of Board positions, including Chairman and Managing Director, in maritime industry organisations and was the founder of the Australian Marine Environment Protection Association.


Steve is a Master Mariner and holds tertiary qualifications in Nautical Science, Business (Shipping) and Journalism. He is a Fellow of the Nautical Institute, a Fellow of the Australasian Marine Pilots Institute and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics in Australia.

Graham Hughes, Company Secretary

Graham’s accounting career commenced in public practice. He was then engaged by a client to list its business on the ASX whereupon he assumed the Company Secretary and CFO roles.


He subsequently became CFO of a number of companies in Australia, Singapore and Papua New Guinea. He attributes his knowledge of the shipping industry to two of these companies, which owned and operated shipping lines throughout the Pacific region and Asia.


Graham was then instrumental in the public listing of RP Data on the ASX, to which he was appointed Finance Director and Company Secretary, until assisting in its sale to Macquarie Bank.


Graham has also owned and operated numerous and various businesses throughout his career, including online auction sites, civil contracting, crane hire, mining and tourism.
